My simple guide to colour; different colours for different moods, intentions, powers & confidence!

Anyone can wear ANY colour, it’s about getting the correct tone for your complexion (& unfortunately that is different for everyone so that is why it gets so confusing). But in theory, we should be naturally attracted to the colours that suit us. The reason we may get it wrong sometimes could be for varying reasons: hearing others around us not liking a certain colour, a certain colour reminding us of trauma (for example me & my purple bedroom, where I suffered from anorexia as a teenager) to even associating the colour with someone we, say, didn’t like as a child or a teacher who always wore green tights (another one of my examples) and was mean to me.

The important thing is to choose a colour to wear that benefits how you are feeling, or what you need to achieve that day. Not only will it give you a massive spring in your step but it will also stop you stressing about your outfit choice that day. So let’s get started …..

Red is perfect for days when you need to have high energy & be motivated (also works if you are just plain exhausted). Why? Because it releases adrenaline into your body.  It is also shown to be fantastic to show off your ambitious & motivated side, but not to forget your passionate side too.

Passionate, urgency, daring, exciting, energetic, demanding & dangerous

Yellow is a fantastic, stimulating colour that promotes clarity, intellect & happiness. It evokes confidence so wear it if you have an interview, a presentation or are having a wobbly day and want to bring some fun & sunshine into your day. It is an inspirational colour too so a great one for when others are seeing you, e.g. meetings or networking events. Yellow is definitely a trickier colour to wear so maybe look for it in a print, a scarf or a more muted tone to begin with.

Optimistic, friendly, clarity, warmth, enlightening, cheerful, happy & abundant

Orange is a communicating colour; it is very sociable and dynamic as well as showing great warmth. Wear orange if you need to interact with lots of people, if you’re taking new steps or meeting new friends/colleagues.

Cheerful, confident, energising, warmth, sociable, desire & communication

Green, my favourite colour, is the colour of balance, harmony & calm. It is a great colour to wear if you blush easily, have a ruddier complexion, or have acne as it balances out the red & calms it with the balancing of the green. It’s a relatively easy colour to wear too as there are lots of great shades and tones.

Calm, soothing, reassuring, peaceful, healthy, healing, growth & money

Blue is our nation’s most popular colour. It is very diplomatic, approachable & portrays honesty & trust. A fab colour for important days at work or if you are feeling stressed. Blue releases oxytocin, the feel good hormone, so it also benefits everyone you are with.

Reliable, trustworthy, strong, peace, confidence, credible & integrity

Pink is compassionate, supportive and has a wonderfully emotional & flirty side (first date anyone?!). It’s a great colour to wear if you need cheering up or need to put a smile on someone’s face. Apparently it’s also good if you have a lot of listening to do.

Romantic, compassion, beauty, flirtatious, sensitive, love & supportive

Purple (here goes) is the most expensive colour to make. Its oozes luxury (think about the Royal Crown), purpose, leadership & is great for debating. It aids mediation & shows dedication, so wear purple if you are in-charge or need to win someone over. It also connects to our spiritual sides and helps to find purpose, so maybe I need to re-connect with it for this specific reason.

Royal, wise, imaginative, protective, thoughtful, dignity, curative & luxurious

Finally, neutrals (beige, creams, ivory, white, grey, blacks & browns). They are great for breaking up an outfit. They also work to help you to look more professional, conservative & serious. However, if worn top-to-toe they can make you feel quite subdued & lacking in emotion, but they definitely have an important role to play in your wardrobe, so don’t be put off by their meaning.

Simplicity, balance, calm, sophistication, formality, neutral, security & strong
