What to wear to a summer event, without getting stressed out!
Ever been invited to an event & the first thing you think is “what am I going to wear?”; you panic, get super stressed, maybe anxiety creeps in and just maybe it’s sometimes too much that you don’t even go, and miss out on a fabulous time.
I want you to take a deep breath & consider this. Can I tweak my usual style to allow “Event Dressing” to be just a simple extension of how you dress day-to-day! It really is that easy; don’t go and buy something so “un-you” that it will sit in your wardrobe gathering dust until I come & edit your wardrobe, taking it away to a charity shop barely worn. I want to encourage you not to go & buy something new, and so specific to an event, that it then can’t be worn numerous times for lots of other occasions; versatile enough to be dressed up for other summer events, weddings, bbq’s etc as well as to be dressed down for more casual occasions. If nothing else it’s a massive waste of your money, plus don’t get me started on the sustainability aspect (definitely consider renting or borrowing from your friends too).
Gone are the days of stuffing yourself into those constricting dresses which were only wedding appropriate, nowadays it’s so much more about being individual, using accessories, footwear, bags etc so that even if you turn up in the same dress, jumpsuit, or co-ord as someone else, it really doesn’t matter because you made it you; personal to you, your style & how you wanted to show up to the event.
To give you an example, the happiest, most comfortable & most stylish I ever felt at a wedding was wearing one of my comfiest printed slip skirts from good old Topshop, a knitted jumper from H&M which only cost £12.99 (it was a March wedding) & all I added a pair of cobalt bright blue heels. I’d had a baby a few months previously and I just needed to be comfortable, but actually this was a lightbulb moment & one I wanted to share with you all: be comfortable, individual & choose versatility above all else.
The beauty of relaxed dress codes these days means that even a simple everyday midi dress (that you love wearing) can be the perfect event dress when you throw on a blazer & add a pair of heels: and as ever, the way you accessorise will add your personality & individuality. Now I ask you to enjoy those Summer events, & have a drink for me (Pimms please!) to celebrate the fact you haven’t wasted time, money or got over-stressed!
