The AW22 “wearable” trends I am recommending to translate into your wardrobes
I always find the start of a new season a really exciting time; when it's time to change up my style with the change in weather & i’m definitely embracing full on Autumn vibes now. I am like a magpie for all the gorgeous textures, layers, fabrics & Autumnal vibes, way more than the Summer season. And AW22 is no exception; this season is full of wearable trends I am absolutely on board with (as many items are already sitting in my wardrobe ready to go).
Don’t forget to use the trends for inspiration; shop your own wardrobes first, trends are circular & absolutely adaptable (and really are there to encourage consumerism & for us to buy buy buy). I always tell my clients to use the trends & what filters into the shops, to enhance items already sitting in your wardrobe. Use the trends to create outfits you from what you already own, or get creative with sourcing new items or styles you haven’t tried before in your wardrobe - & don’t forget to swap with friends, check out your local charity shops or search on Vinted (I am seeing so many clients finding amazing item on Vinted & both my kids ‘new’ boots this Autumn have been purchased on this platform too).
So here are my top “Wearable Trends” that I’ll be rocking’ this Autumn
When it comes to colour - it's the brighter the better & you all know I’m always here for the pops of colour! Why? Because it’s so uplifting, fun and mood-enhancing to wear bright colours, especially in Autumn when we are so accustomed to seeing darker, more muted or jewel tones. The catwalks were full of PINK (as discussed previously so will leave Barbiecore for now) and every neon & bright colour imaginable. In addition to all the pinks was a continuation of the “kermit” green from Summer, plus a shade of green suitable for everyone. From bright acid green, to deep forest greens; what brights do you have in your wardrobe waiting to burst into your Autumn vibe?
Head-to-toe Suiting & the return of the Power Shoulders (my fave!)
The tailoring trend has been strong for the last 3 seasons & I’m thrilled that it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon! I am here for the statement colour suits & bold shoulders, even with my already very broad shoulders. But soft tailoring with muted knits has also been key to street style & I feel a lot more wearable day-to-day, although the cobalt blue suit I showed at a recent Style Sessions was hugely popular so Tesco be ready, we are coming for you!
Don’t forget to check out second hand suiting, especially in menswear, where the quality is better (particularly at the moment), plus it will give the slouchy feel more easily that ladies wear (you can always try sizing up).
Tailored Separates are no longer just for the office; clean-lined tailoring paired with neutrals is the perfect way to elevate your every day outfits. Try boxy blazers, subtle pinstripes for a look a Hadid sister would be proud of. Any tailoring goes!
Realign your silhouette & stand tall with in a blazer empowered with the power shoulders. Slung over jeans, dresses, knits & skirts they are warm, comfortable and super flattering ( & if you need help finding one I’m definitely your girl).
Leather, particularly Conker brown, Olive & Claret this season!
I am always encouraging clients to invest in leather as it will last, never goes out of style & is so versatile! I too am a sucker for leather (although my leather jackets are now almost 10 years old so I don’t invest very often as I don’t need to). The leather biker & leather skirt are classics which will last a lifetime in your wardrobe, so these would always be my first investment recommendations.
Classic autumn colours in soft, buttery leather BUT tailored & sharp! Pair sumptuous knits with the structured biker & play with colour combinations. The “conker” coloured leather has a softer feel to it than black & works fantastically with a chunky neutral knit for texture combinations perfect for the season. It also pairs beautifully with the bright blues of the colour pop trend.
The 90’s & Y2K have spoken & made a definite comeback for some time - AW22 season was no different. In addition, All Saints (the band not the destination shop for amazing leather jackets) have called and asked for their cargo pants back, although they’ve definitely grown up looking at Sarah Harris teaming hers with her simple vest & very high heels! For me, the hero pieces within this trend are the plain white tank & the bomber jacket. I like the simplicity of this trend; the white tank worn with beautiful leather trousers or the super casual styling of the tank and wide leg jeans (I’d then throw over the power shoulder blazer of course).
I won’t however be wearing the low slung jeans & micro minis & I certainly won’t be spending the £600+ on the Prada white vest …. and feel this is ludicrous cost for a “basic” item.
It’s impossible to have an AW season without a trend focused around knitwear! And for AW22 there were still a lot of knitted co-ords, a continuation of the Fairisle trend we’ve seen over the last few years (I saw a couple of great pieces in Zara this week which would look fantastic belted) and, of course, the tassled knits of the “Western” trends ( along with the must-have cowboy boots of AW22) & the striped knits which have become an AW staple.
The seasons hottest two piece is the sweater & skirt combo (absolutely loving the lime with grey knit). It’s simple, effective & we can all put this together with ease.
Mono but with a smattering of beige.
It’s time to channel your inner Olsen twin - think muted tones, a heavy dose of black & a smattering of white shirts, tanks & tees. This look is all about ankle grazing long lengths, draped fabrics, minimal accessories & of course, a pair of sunglasses if we are being an Olsen. Think smart but oh-so chic! Tie it all together with a beautiful black leather handbag, ideally in the “slouched” shape of the season.
Please remember all I want to encourage with this trend report are ideas for wardrobe refreshes & encouragement to try something new, and I hope I have given you ideas to do this!
