Top 12 AW24 Items Your Wardrobe Needs
Read on to discover the items your wardrobe needs this autumn winter to work at it’s best for you!
A huge & incredible part of my job, as a Personal Stylist & Personal Shopper, is to guide my clients into making purchases of items that will work hard for them each season, and more importantly work with what they already own in their wardrobes. In doing this, the stress of what to wear every day is greatly reduced, so that getting dressed each day becomes easier, & more fun, as you’ll be able to easily create multiple looks & know how to tweak the styling to maximise on their versatility.
So here are my top items that will see you through, and strengthen your style, this Autumn Winter season:
The Coat
Jackets for clever layering
Knitwear
Jeans
Dresses
Tops (including tees & blouses)
Trousers (other than jeans)
Skirts
Jumpsuit / Boiler suit
Tights & socks for warmth
Belts to add style personality
Footwear: boots, shoes & trainers
Of course this all depends on your personal preference, but if there is a category you don’t particularly like to wear (we need to chat), add into another for example if you aren’t a jumpsuit wearer (before totally disregarding please check out Oliver Bonas’ collection), why not add another dress or skirt?
My Autumn Winter Coat recommendations:
The everyday Trench - the perfect Autumn outerwear style, ensure it is in a colour that works across all outfits & is showerproof as a minimum
The overcoat - for when you need to look smarter or its a chilly one outside. Ensure the fit across the back works with your layers underneath so it’s not to tight
The textured coat - because we all know I’m a huge texture fan & want to add into my looks where ever I can
My Autumn Winter jacket recommendations:
The leather jacket - An item I would never be without, seriously. Please invest wisely on a style that won’t date as it should last you 10 years + with a little love
The suede jacket - If you prefer a softer feel than leather, the suede jacket will go with everything, plus as it is on-trend this season there more choice available to you
The Uniqlo puffer - my ‘unsexy’ layering piece that slides under everything from my leather jacket to my duvet coat. Don’t knock it til you try it
My Autumn Winter knitwear recommendations:
The Cardi - I’m not the biggest cardigan fan, but when I do find one it needs to work from desk to dinner to sofa snuggling and anything in between. Keep an eye on your buttons please!
The Jumper - This piece needs to be versatile (I know we all have more than one) in order to layer, add warmth & be smart enough to hit the bar for a mulled wine or two
The Cashmere sweater - an investment item so choose your colour /colours wisely & please pay attention to the Care Instructions
My Autumn Winter jean recommendations:
The Wide leg - we want high-waisted ladies, the correct leg length to flatter & I always hang mine to save getting too many creases
The Barrel - I know they are having a moment, but I think these will become a wardrobe staple in my wardrobe for years
The Classic - every wardrobe needs a Classic jean, I’d recommend a visit to Levis for a pair of jeans to last you a lifetime (almost)
My Autumn Winter dress recommendations:
The printed dress - I love having a printed dress as a go-to for Autumn / Winter, especially in my colour season, and one that is multi functional ( particularly for all my footwear)
The denim dress - perfect for layering when its chilly with a printed or colourful top underneath & a jacket thrown over the top
The suede / cord - another great way to add texture into your dress game!
My Autumn Winter tops & blouses recommendations:
The simple metallic tee - always a firm favourite of mine throughout the party & festive season. It won’t date & looks great with denim, leather & velvet
The denim shirt - a wardrobe essential I couldn’t be without!
The printed blouse - this season of course it’s all about leopard, and as leopard is a neutral this will work with anything you pair with it! I’m also a huge fan of the Chloe -esq versions this season.
My Autumn Winter trouser recommendations:
The wide leg - always such a flattering leg shape, if you get the right waistband & leg width for your shape
The soft trouser - maybe even a ‘posh’ jogger; a simple Ponte or smart jersey trouser which can work with a blazer & low heel or flat for work, and leather jacket & trainers for the weekend vibe
The leather trouser - another wardrobe essential! Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it ladies; leggings, cropped or a leather jogger (I own all of these)
My Autumn Winter skirt recommendations:
The leather skirt - I believe everyone should own a leather skirt whether mini, midi or maxi!
The black sheer lace skirt - for day to night, with boots, heels or your trainers. Don’t fear this incredible little number
The suede / cord skirt - Again softer than leather, and definitely more daywear, but how about the suede skirt again when festival season hits, we are all about versatility ladies
My Autumn Winter jumpsuit / Boiler suit recommendations:
The denim boiler suit - easy to dress-up with a heel & tux blazer, or down with a colourful trainer & Borg fleece
The textured jumpsuit - I am a big fan of a cord version for the Autumn & Winter, again as above so easy to dress-up or down
The ‘interest’ jumpsuit - this can bring the glam, the print & the fun!
My Autumn Winter tights & socks recommendations:
The patterned tight - I’m a polka dot fan, what’s going to be your go-to to add some fun, texture & detail to your outfit over the traditional black opaques which are often too much of a stark contrast
Thermals - I know my cold ladies will need some of these
The colour pop sock - I’m personally not a sock fan, but when I need a pair I want them to add fun & colour to my looks
My Autumn Winter belt recommendations:
The printed - Always a great way to add interest, texture & personality to a simple jeans & jumper combo
The plain - why not add a coloured belt to your repertoire, especially in one of your ideal colours (especially if you’ve had your Colour Analysis)
The metallic - a metallic belt will add as a neutral again, working with anything you pair it with. Just keep an eye on your hardware across your outfit
My Autumn Winter footwear recommendations:
The Knee high boot - I’ve fallen back in love with the knee highs, especially now there is so much more choice in a heel height that I can actually walk in. Plus they are so versatile with minis, maxis, cropped trousers, jeans etc.
The Flat - whether metallic or a printed shoe (leopard anyone), flats are back & we have so much choice this season it’s a great addition to pop into your wardrobe, plus they are comfortable
The colourful trainer - 2024 has been the year of the coloured trainer & I don’t want this love affair to end. Trainers are an easy go-to, & if you can add a pop of colour it will brighten up your whole look on a cloudy day (just be sure to add your suede protector)
So, hopefully now you feel that loosing your style as each season changes is totally normal. We all get a bit lost, have a mad panic that nothing works for us anymore & even sometimes get a little bored of the same clothes sitting there. Before totally panicking, work out the missing gaps & how to find them to get you feeling more excited about your Autumn Winter style again.
And, if you are still stressed, or you’d like help finding the specific pieces for your wardrobe, please get in touch to chat about how I can work with you to help you find your confidence again.
